Alessandro Boezio is an Italian contemporary sculptor born in 1983 in Foggia who currently lives and works in Milan.[1] A multifaceted artist of versatile creativity, he is known for creating bizarre and grotesque artworks that explore the boundaries between reality and illusion through the manipulation of human anatomy, particularly hands and feet.[4] His artistic practice emerged unconsciously during his school years when he used his hand as a pattern for anatomic drawings, eventually developing into a sophisticated exploration of the symbolic and evolutionary significance of hands in human communication and expression.[4] Boezio's work is characterized by the poetics of the impossible and the philosophy of the artificial, merging optical deception with conceptual practice.[1] He works with multiple materials—both precious and simple—to create sculptures, installations, and environmental pieces that often incorporate golden thread and shadow play to generate surrealist scenes.[3] His guiding principle is that "everything can be transformed, everything can be re-used, everything is re-adaptable," which informs his approach to reimagining human anatomy in unexpected and often unsettling configurations.[4] His works have been exhibited internationally across Germany, Spain, England, Belgium, and the United States.[3]
